Most women spend hours in labor. Some women do deliver in a very short period of time, but this is rare. You should be able to time the length of the contractions. You are looking for longer contractions, stronger contractions and ones that become closer together. Once these contractions are becoming stronger, regular and the time between them is increasing, it is time to go and obtain medical assistance.
